JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (First Alert 4)— The Missouri Senate passed a new congressional map Friday that is likely to increase Republican representation in Washington, D.C.
Republicans had to cut off debate to pass the vote after Democrats attempted to stall it. The redistricting plan now goes to Republican Gov. Mike Kehoe’s desk to be signed.
Gov. Kehoe called a special session at the end of last month to redraw the state’s congressional maps in the middle of the normal 10-year cycle. The move was pushed by President Donald Trump and followed a similar move by lawmakers in Texas.
The new maps would likely boost the GOP’s chances of adding another republican representative in Congress, likely at the defeat of Democrat Congressman Emanuel Cleaver from the Kansas City region.
