This Saturday, Croydon will wake up to the smell of espresso, sugar, and freshly baked pastries when brothers Luca and Davide Bonavoglia open the doors to their patisserie on Elizabeth Street.

The family-run shopfront feels like a slice of southern Italy transplanted into Adelaide, with subway tiles, green, white and gold finishes, and a quaint double door that nods to the heritage of Elizabeth Street. “It feels like a proper Italian shopfront,” says Luca’s friend Lena, who has supported the brothers since their arrival.

Dolceria by Luca is the result of a long-held dream. Luca, a pastry chef from Potenza near Naples, spent more than a decade in Adelaide kitchens, including eight years setting up the patisserie at Prospect’s popular Schinella’s Market
