GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The American Civil Liberties Union of South Carolina issued a statement after some lawmakers called for the firing of multiple teachers and professors.
The controversy surrounds comments made on social media about the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a close ally of President Donald Trump.
Greenville County Schools said a social studies teacher was no longer employed with the district after a post on the day Kirk died saying, “America became greater today.”
Lawmakers including U.S. Reps Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman who called for the public school teacher’s removal have also asked for Clemson University to fire a professor accused of making comments.
