After the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Vice President JD Vance took to social media on Wednesday night to recall his longstanding friendship with Kirk, saying that the conservative influencer played a pivotal role in the rapid ascension of his political career.

Kirk, 31, was killed on Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University. A suspect, Tyler Robinson, 22, has since been arrested in connection with the shooting, where Robinson is alleged to have shot Kirk with a sniper rifle as he was in the midst of hosting one of his so-called "prove me wrong" debates on campus.
