Correctional officers at a medium-security prison in Agassiz have seized more than $50,000 in contraband and unauthorized items in a recent search.

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) announced on Friday (Sept. 12) that officers at Mountain Institution seized methamphetamine, SD cards and other prohibited items on Sept. 9. The seized items had a total institutional value of $54,600.

The Agassiz RCMP have been notified and an investigation is ongoing.

The CSC has a number of safeguards in place to keep smuggling at bay, including ion scanners, drug detector dogs and searches of buildings, personal property and visitors.
