Fort Wayne could see more townhouses and duplexes after city officials advanced a new effort to fill vacant land in neighborhoods.
City Council on Tuesday gave its preliminary approval of "zero lot lines," which allows for multiple residences on some lots that previously were zoned for only one home.
Dave Schaab, of the Department of Planning Services, said zero lot line housing has two types: single-family and two-family, which are commonly referred to as townhomes, townhouses or duplexes.
“I think definitely the zero lot line single-family (will see the most use),” said Schaab, a senior planner. “That’s a very common housing type that we’re seeing right now, and I think that’s going to be probably the main type that’s utilized.”
