U.S. and Indian soldiers are training side by side in Alaska even as relations between the two nations have flagged in recent months over the Trump administration's tariff policy and its disputed claim of brokering a Pakistan-India ceasefire.

Soldiers with the 11th Airborne Division are hosting roughly 450 Indian troops for the annual Yudh Abhyas exercise, which alternates venue each year between the two countries.

The exercise began in 2004 as an exchange focused on counterinsurgency but has evolved over the years into field training that also includes conventional threats and disaster relief. The two-week exercise ends Sunday.
