GRAND MARAIS, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Settled on the harbor in Grand Marais, North House Folk School draws visitors from around the world looking to learn new skills and take part in the area’s rich culture of art and making.
The school has become a destination for both beginners and craft experts like instructor Fred Livesay who’s watched the school grow since its founding in 1977.
“It’s nice to see how well-known the school has become worldwide,” said Livesay. “I can travel to Europe, and people know about North House Folk School.”
Classes at North House teach traditional northern craft and range in topic from birch bark basket weaving to boat building.
Program director Jessa Frost says the one-of-a kind classes are part of what draws over 3,000 visitors to the school each year.
