MONTPELIER, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - The Green Mountain Care Board (GMCB) Friday announced that its annual review of Vermont hospital budgets is complete, and prices will increase for some, but not at Vermont's largest hospital.
GMCB had aimed for commercial prices to increase by 3% or less, and such small price hikes were approved at all but two of Vermont's 14 general hospitals. Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend did not request an increase. UVM Medical Center did - but rather than approving the request, GMCB required a 6.4% decrease in the hospital's commercial rates.
UVMMC had written to the board, saying that its requested budget was the best they could do while remaining sustainable, and said that decreases in spending would be "felt by providers and patients across the state."
