HARRODSBURG, Ky. — Every iPhone worldwide will have a piece of Harrodsburg, Ky., because the Corning manufacturing plant in Mercer County has committing to making 100% of the cover glass for Apple.

Corning employees are reveling in the major responsibility ahead of them.

“I get very proud when my children tell their friends that my mom made that,” Shawn Markham, a Corning employee, said.

Corning employee Tommy Shirley said billions of people are using the devices.

“They’re touching home for us,” Shirley said.

Apple CEO Tim Cook visited the plant in Harrodsburg on Friday morning.



Corning Chief Operations Officer Hal Nelson said the company will produce all cover glass for iPhones and Apple Watches, including the ceramic shield in a brand-new Apple product lineup.
