LANCASTER, S.C. (WBTV) - Lancaster County Schools is using a new system for the first time on Friday, which will allow them to detect weapons before they come onto campus.
Lancaster Schools has installed 18 EVOLV weapons detectors at its nine middle and high schools. This is the first day the district is using them to search students, staff, and visitors who come through.
Safety and Transportation Director Lonnie Plyler said the more than $1.4-million investment was paid for with a grant from the South Carolina State Board of Education and the district’s capital funds.
Students can keep their bookbags and are only asked to remove a few items.
