SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Students from Eugene Field A+ Elementary traded their classrooms for the garden Friday as they harvested crops at IronFox Farms.

Third and fourth-grade students planted the vegetables last spring, and months later, they returned as fourth and fifth-graders to pull them from the soil.

IronFox Farms owners Dan and Megan EisenVos said partnering with the nearby school was a natural fit.

“When my wife and I acquired this land, we knew we needed to share it with somebody, and Eugene Field Elementary is just a block away, so it made sense for us to partner with them for educational gardening,” Dan EisenVos said.

He said the goal was to reconnect students with the food system by letting them experience the work that goes into growing vegetables.
