NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — North Ridgeville City Council last week conducted the first reading of an ordinance updating the city’s deer hunting regulations for longbow and crossbow use, sending it to the safety committee for further review.

If passed, the responsibility to review and approve or deny deer hunting land registration would move from the safety service director to the mayor.

The ordinance would also allow landowners to register their property for deer hunting without a time limit and mailed notices to adjacent landowners would be replaced with a seasonal “hunting map” posted on the city’s website.

During the meeting, Councilman Eric Shaffer raised questions about the ordinance’s current $200 fine for violations.
