Navy football coach Brian Newberry went to Westmoore High School with Brad Smith, an offensive lineman who went on to play for the University of Tulsa in the 1990s. Played on the 1996 Golden Hurricane team that beat Oklahoma.

Brad Smith settled in the Edmond area, and his son, Toran Smith, played football at Deer Creek High School. Now Toran Smith is the starting center at Navy, which plays his dad’s alma mater Saturday night at Chapman Stadium.

“I’m sure this is going to be a pretty big homecoming for his family,” Newberry said of Brad Smith. “Pretty neat deal. His son starting against his alma mater on Saturday.
