Night driving on the high-rise West Seattle Bridge has been plunged into darkness by vandals, and will remain that way for a while.

Seattle City Light says rows of bridge streetlights were damaged, a problem that’s afflicted other neighborhoods in recent years. The city has no target date yet to restore the bridge lights.

“There’s some engineering and coordination that needs to take place to know what needs to be fixed,” spokesperson Jenn Strang said Friday. She couldn’t confirm what parts were damaged, or whether wires were stolen, a common cause of streetlight outages. City Light will try to devise a repair plan next week, she said.

City Light will also explore ways to deter theft or vandalism there in the future, she said.
