Equine groups like Pennsylvania’s Omega Horse Rescue are working daily to solve equine welfare issues on the ground. They provide lifesaving resources to help keep horses in their homes or support their transition to new homes and careers. But they cannot fully succeed while the slaughter pipeline remains open.

Nearly 75% of horse owners who reach out for help through the ASPCA’s Equine Transition and Adoption Center have indicated that a fear of slaughter caused them to keep their horse longer than planned. This underscores how slaughter gets in the way of rehoming and providing good welfare.

Pennsylvania’s Congressional leaders can help remove this threat by supporting the passage of the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act (H.R. 1661 / S. 775), which would finally end the slaug
