According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, in the past week, Troopers have cleared out 64 homeless camps in Tulsa. Officials said the biggest issue is safety.

"The more important issue is these people getting hit by cars,” said Lt. Mark Southall. "Almost all of these auto pedestrian crashes that we have here in Oklahoma on these interstates and Tulsa specifically involve a homeless person."

Concerns from the Homeless Alliance

One non-profit leader in Oklahoma City said this initiative could cause more harm. Homeless Alliance CEO Meghan Mueller works with people experiencing homelessness every day.

Her team collaborates with dozens of agencies in OKC to help people access affordable housing. Mueller said moving people around a community fails to address the root cause of homelessness.
