Hatley Castle has long stood as a landmark of Colwood’s history, and on Sunday, Sept. 14, the skies above it will carry a sight fitting for its storied past.

Two Royal Canadian Air Force CF-18 Hornet fighter jets and a CH-148 Cyclone helicopter are set to conduct a flypast over the castle at approximately 2 p.m.

The flypast marks the 30-year reunion of the final graduating class from the Royal Roads Military College. Royal Roads University in Colwood served as a military college from 1940 to 1995.

The class of 1995, which included 64 graduates, was the last to complete its studies before the school closed its doors that same year.

This year’s reunion will also carry a solemn note.
