The inaugural Righetti girls flag football team notched its inaugural win in its inaugural game Thursday night.
Throwing into a crowd, Righetti quarterback Meghan Calderon connected with Zadie Reyes with the winning extra point conversion pass late in the third quarter, and the Warriors edged Santa Maria 7-6.
Calderon scored the tying touchdown on a 10-yard reverse on fourth down. Santa Maria quarterback Sophie Juarez put the Saints ahead when she weaved her way through the Righetti defense for a 16-yard touchdown run in the first quarter on Santa Maria's initial possession of the game.
Calderon is a catcher for the Righetti softball team, and she strong-armed the pass to Reyes through a tight window for the winning point.
