MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - As the primary for Wisconsin’s next governor heats up, we sat down one-on-one with Republican candidate Josh Schoemann, an Iraq veteran and the Washington County executive.

The following is an edited transcript of the conversation between Schoemann and Wisconsin State Capitol Bureau Chief Vanessa Kjeldsen. It has been edited for clarity and conciseness.

Vanessa Kjeldsen : Why do you want to be governor?

Josh Schoemann : Well, it’s not about being governor. It’s about doing something for the state. You know, my whole life, we’ve had young people leaving the state, whether they graduate high school and graduate college and go to other states for other opportunities... I want to make Wisconsin the place to be, not just say you were from there.
