PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Dozens gathered outside the Rhode Island State House Friday evening for a vigil in memory of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot and killed earlier this week.

Kirk was shot Wednesday afternoon while visiting Utah Valley University. The 31-year-old was speaking at a debate hosted by his conservative youth organization Turning Point USA.

The suspected gunman, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was taken into custody following a frantic day-and-a-half search.

The candlelit vigil at the State House was hosted by Rhode Island Turning Point USA.
