EDGECOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A person was injured in a shooting Friday night that forced fans, players and coaches to leave the game between Tarboro High School and Southwest Edgecombe High School in Pinetops, according to the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office also says a person of interest is in custody.

Raleigh NBC affiliate WRAL says the game was evacuated with 1:58 remaining in the third quarter.

It is unclear what led up to the shooting, but the sheriff’s office said the person was taken to the hospital.

Authorities said the victim was “stable,” but did not elaborate on the severity of the victim’s injuries.
