MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A Memphis man is trying to spread some goodwill and show Memphis in a positive light.

Darren Steen estimates that over the last year, he has spent nearly $45,000 giving away food, shoes, and TVs, and has also paid people's rent and utility bills.

"I just saw so much bad going on in the city. I'm like somebody has got to bring some light to the city. Do something different," said Steen. "We are not used to this in Memphis. I'm like, let me be the first to try to do something new, too."

Thursday afternoon, he bought 70 pieces of chicken from the Church’s on Frayser Boulevard, set up a table, and went on Facebook telling people to come pick up the chicken.

One couple showed up with their three kids to get some boxes of chicken and were grateful for the free meals. Steen
