TAOS, N.M. —
This year, five people have died by suicide at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge in Taos, two within a week.
The bridge is known for its stunning views and being the fifth-highest bridge in the country. However, locals know it for something else.
"Unfortunately, we get people from all over the state and not just this state from all over the country that come and jump off the bridge," said Sgt. Gregory Trujillo. "Most of the calls we get is because there's vehicles that get left behind, and they're like, this vehicle was not here. It just got here this morning. The person that was driving it hasn't returned, so maybe you guys want to come and check it out. At which point, we go and check the vehicle. Sometimes there's notes."
