MILWAUKEE -- In a nod to the wackiness of the National League’s race for the final Wild Card slot , Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol chuckled as he mentioned that his club somehow picked up a game in the standings even after being swept by the Mariners earlier in the week and having Thursday off.

The Cardinals weren’t as fortunate on Friday night against surging right-hander Quinn Priester and the 90-win Brewers.

Milwaukee scored four times in the third inning on an infield single, three walks and an errant throw and rode Priester’s 12th straight win in a 8-2 defeat of the Cardinals at American Family Field.
