TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - A Tucson city councilmember is facing widespread criticism following controversial social media comments related to the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Lane Santa Cruz, a Ward 1 councilwoman, posted Instagram stories that have sparked outrage among some of her colleagues and the public.

Santa Cruz's first post said, "Krama (sic) if you know you know. Diosito te maldiga."

The Spanish phrase translates to God curse you.

Her second post was an out of context quote of Kirk talking about his disapproval of the word "empathy."
