Sweater weather has arrived and autumn will begin in little more than a week. That means snow is not far behind.

At next week’s meting of the operations committee, councillors will look ahead to the winter season. They will vote on continuing a winter sidewalk maintenance pilot project, and they will look at whether it should become a permanent budget item.

The motion calls on the municipality to continue using “the continuous service pilot project for sidewalk maintenance during the 2025-26 winter season,” and it directs staff to prepare a business case “as part of the 2026-27 budget process to consider making the pilot project a permanent feature.”

Continuing the pilot project would cost taxpayers about $289,000 and would be funded with reserves.
