FARGO — Up just one score after a Fargo South touchdown drive in the fourth quarter, Fargo North needed a response.

Mikel Lockwood offered one in a big way.

The Spartans started their next possession at their own 10-yard line following an illegal block in the back penalty on the kickoff. On first-and-10, quarterback Kellen Dougherty handed off to Lockwood who ran right.

North's senior running back was met at the edge by a sea of Bruins. But suddenly, daylight.

Lockwood broke the pile and scurried away for a 90-yard touchdown run with 9:18 remaining. The play put the Spartans back up by two TDs and North ultimately thwarted a second-half South rally to take a 28-21 rivalry night win on the north side Friday.
