APPLE GROVE, W.Va. (WV News) — Construction of Nucor Corp.’s $4 billion sheet steel mill in Mason County is moving forward on schedule, with structures continuing to rise. Production is expected to begin in 2027, company officials said.
The facility covers 1,700 acres between W.Va. Route 2 and the Ohio River and is designed to be one of the most technologically advanced and environmentally friendly steel mills in the world. It will include electric arc furnaces and galvanizing lines, with an annual capacity of up to 3 million tons of sheet steel for the automotive, construction and industrial markets.
Nucor has also acquired land across Route 2 for support operations. Appalachian Power plans to build a substation on that property to meet the mill’s heavy electricity demands, particularly
