MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WV News) — As fall arrives, West Virginia’s hills shift from green to shades of orange, red and gold.

The state is home to 35 state parks and nine state forests, offering ideal settings to showcase the season’s vibrant hues.

“To really take in the fall season, when the leaves are changing, some of the best places are those with big vista views,” said Paul Redford, deputy chief of West Virginia State Parks.

Hawks Nest and Pipestem top his list, he said.

“They’re also large parks with year-round lodging, full-service restaurants, gift shops and miles of hiking trails,” Redford said.
