The Albanese government has announced new counter-terrorism financing sanctions targeting Hamas’ new leader Izz al-Din al-Haddad and two other individuals.

Mr al-Haddad became the military commander of the terrorist organisation Hamas in May 2025.

He was listed alongside another member of Hamas’ political bureau, a senior financial facilitator and a currency exchange facilitating funds and cryptocurrency for the group.

“The Albanese government remains unequivocal in its condemnation of Hamas,” Foreign Minister Penny Wong said in a statement on Saturday.

“We continue to work with the international community to isolate Hamas and end its grip on Gaza… There can be no role for Hamas in a Palestinian state.”

The measures also renewed terrorist organisation listings against Hamas, Hizballah
