JAMESTOWN — Karson Schmidt's debut as the starting quarterback for the Jamestown High School football team didn't go exactly as hoped.

The Jays are still hopeful about the future.

"(Schmidt) did a solid job for his first time out there," JHS head coach Bill Nelson said. "He did some good things. We've got some things we've got to work on and we'll keep working, we've got to keep working."

Jamestown's latest game — a matchup against Central Cass on Friday — was a 27-18 loss. The Jays' record now stands at 1-2. The Blue Jays will be on the road next week, facing top-ranked Kindred. The Blue Jays and Vikings will play at 6 p.m. at West Fargo Horace High School.

While the game didn't end the way the Jays wanted, it started off great.
