There's a new top team in New Mexico.

Las Cruces (4-0) took down Cleveland (3-1) 38-34 in Rio Rancho in a battle of MaxPreps' No. 2 and No. 1 ranked teams, respectively, on Sept. 12. The win will almost surely make the Bulldawgs the new No. 1 team in New Mexico when the newest poll releases next week.

The eventual game-winning touchdown was scored by Las Cruces quarterback Gunnar Guardiola on a two-yard touchdown run with 1:29 left to play. The Storm, who had no timeouts, may have allowed Guardiola to reach the end zone to have enough time for a response, but they didn't get it.

A Bulldawgs interception was negated due to a pass interference penalty, but they would not be denied a game-sealing takeaway. Las Cruces defensive back Josiah Gutierrez earned it moments later by intercepting C
