SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — It felt like déjà vu inside the Scottsdale City Council chambers.

Just a few days ago, the council voted not to take legal action against the state for allowing Axon to build its headquarters and apartment complexes near the Loop 101 and Hayden Road without voter approval. On Friday, that changed.

In a six-to-one vote, they approved the interim city attorney and his team to file a notice of claim against the state of Arizona, which leaves the door open for a lawsuit down the road if the City chooses to go that route.

It all surrounds Senate Bill 1543, which passed the state legislature and was signed into law by Governor Katie Hobbs. It allowed Axon to move forward with the project even though Scottsdale residents gathered nearly 30,000 signatures to put the decision
