Replacing a quarterback currently in the Big 12 Conference is a tall order, but Jordan Shannon proved he was up to the task Friday night.
Shannon completed 14 of 21 passes for 205 yards and a pair of touchdowns and added two rushing scores as Hitchcock outslugged La Marque 42-21, improving the Bulldogs’ record to 2-1.
“There’s over 1,200 teams in the state of Texas, and maybe 4-5 quarterbacks went to play Power Four ball. That’s hard to replace,” said Hitchcock coach Craig Smith on how Shannon had to follow current Texas Tech quarterback Lloyd Jones. “I can’t say enough about him. He’s done a great job to come in and replace such a talent.”
Shannon also ran for 50 yards as the Bulldogs overcame a tough start to hand the rival Coogs (2-1) their first loss of the season and the
