CHARLESTON — A longtime book blogger is bringing her passion for the written word to King Street with Ladybird Books, an independent store scheduled to open in October at 299 King St.

Bestselling novels and culture-driven cookbooks will share shelf space with a signature “How to Be a Human” section — featuring Southern-influenced memoirs and other thought-provoking works that, as the store describes, “celebrate being grounded in the South while reaching for the world.”

The 1,760-square-foot corner property, previously the longtime home to surf brand Quiksilver until it closed earlier this year, is distinguished by a large circular bay window facing Liberty Street and its silver metal awning.
