Emergency services were deployed to evacuate passengers from an easyJet flight at Manchester Airport on Saturday morning, September 13. The aircraft, preparing for departure to Lanzarote, was affected by an incident involving a tug vehicle, which is used to manoeuvre planes on the ground due to their lack of reverse gear.
Reports indicate that the tug made contact with the front wheels of the aircraft, prompting an immediate emergency response from on-site rescue crews. Passengers on flight EZY 2029 were required to disembark and board a different aircraft while safety checks were conducted.
Manchester Airport confirmed that other flights were not affected by the incident, although one boarding gate was temporarily closed. Images circulating on social media depicted multiple emergency service vehicles on the tarmac, taken from the Terminal 1 building. This response is understood to be standard procedure in such situations.
The flight, originally scheduled to depart at 7am, was able to leave safely after the necessary precautions were taken. EasyJet has been approached for further comment regarding the incident.
