Visiting Laker found a way to make itself at home in “The Backyard” of Cass City.

Matching the Red Hawks hit-for-hit, the No. 8-ranked Lakers prevailed in a thrilling 18-13 slugfest in the Big Thumb Conference White.

“Winning at Cass City is always a big deal because of the environment,” Laker coach Dave LeVasseur said. “Our guys ground out some very tough downs on offense and defense, and we won the downs that counted.”

Laker (3-0, 1-0) got some long and pivotal punts from Ben LeVasseur to win the field position battle, including one that forced Cass City to go 90 yards on its final drive if it wanted to pull out
