One throw against LSU changed the trajectory of what was potentially a championship season for Florida football five years ago.

And it wasn't a football.

The 2025 game between the fourth-ranked Tigers and Gators will mark five seasons since of one of the most infamous penalties in college football history. On that day, a 3-5 LSU team, one year removed from a College Football Playoff championship, pulled a stunning 37-34 upset win over No. 6 Florida in Gainesville, Florida.

Florida entered the game with an 8-1 record and a matchup already clinched to play Alabama in the SEC championship. With a win over the Tigers, the SEC title game with the Crimson Tide would have placed the Gators in contention for their first berth in the CFP.
