A busy A-road has been closed amid a “high-volume gas escape”.

Engineers are said to be working to make the area safe after the A20 Ashford Road in Charing was shut.

Kent County Council’s Highways team issued an incident alert at midday.

“The A20 Ashford Road, Charing, has been closed due to a High-Volume Gas escape,” it read.

“This is for everyone’s safety while engineers are working to make the area safe.”

A signed diversion route is in place via the A20 to Charing, A252 Canterbury Road, A251 Faversham Road, A20 and vice versa.
