The Dodgers’ Game 1 loss to the Giants got even more tense when Max Muncy had to leave after being hit by a pitch on the forearm. Fans feared the worst, given his injury history this season. The incident happened in the top of the eighth inning when Muncy was struck by a pitch from Giants left-hander Joey Lucchesi with a fastball to the wrist.
The third baseman was checked on immediately by trainers and stayed in the game. However, manager Dave Roberts removed Muncy in the bottom half of the inning, replacing him with teammate Miguel Rojas at third base.
After the game, the Dodgers’ manager gave a positive update on Muncy, confirming that the X-rays came back negative. The 35-year-old is expected to be in the lineup on Saturday.
