TYLER, Texas (KLTV) -It’s National Video Game Day, and e-sports programs on college campuses are seeing a steady rise in women taking part and competing.
“It’s definitely male-dominated and that can be intimidating,” UT Tyler student, Kenna Rivers.
She doesn’t see that as an obstacle.
“It doesn’t matter if you’re good or you’re bad or what gender you are,” says Rivers.
Esports is for everyone.
“Especially with our esports team; we’re very open,” says Rivers. “I really wish that was for every single esports team.”
According to Esports Insider the rise of female Esports is shaking up the gaming world. Women comprised 46% of gamers in 2024.
“More women are joining esports and getting into it,” says Rivers.
