LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - East Texans gathered in downtown Lufkin Saturday night to celebrate a historic building’s 100th birthday.

The Pines Theater is turning 100.

Tara Hendrix is the director of Visit Lufkin and helped orchestrate the theater’s birthday party. She said it’s a momentous occasion for the city.

“For 100 years it’s been here. It’s been a staple. Generations have come here to watch a movie, to see (the) performing arts, to see the theater,” Hendrix said.

She said that the point of the event was to bring the community together, the same way the theater always has.

“Tonight is about celebration, and it’s about bringing the community together out on the street, out in front of the Pines, and celebrating together what this landmark means to our community,” Hendrix said.
