BOSTON — Only a few days ago, the Red Sox could concern themselves with home field advantage in the playoffs, be it by winning the American League East or, at the very least, finishing first among the teams in contention for the wild card.

The postseason itself? That seemed assured. Seeding was the last piece of the puzzle.

Now?

Now little seems guaranteed. Three straight losses have seen to that, especially with two in a row to the team they were closest to in the standings, the New York Yankees.

But it’s longer than the last three games, really. It’s six losses in the last nine. Over the last 14 games, covering more than two weeks, the Red Sox are just 6-8. They’re not exactly sailing toward the finish line.
