BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Sabres made a subtle but notable offseason change when forwards Josh Norris and Zach Benson swapped jersey numbers ahead of the 2025-26 NHL season.
The move comes after Norris, who debuted with the Sabres in March wearing No. 13, requested the No. 9 sweater he had worn previously with the Ottawa Senators. The team recently announced the swap on their website and on social media.
So now, Norris will wear No. 9. Benson is switching to No. 6, which is a number he's worn in the past.
Historically, No. 6 has been worn by 14 players in Sabres franchise history, all defensemen. Most recently, 6-foot-4 defenseman Erik Johnson wore the number in the 2023-24 season.
