LA JOLLA — Teams converged from Orange and Los Angeles counties and all four points of San Diego County for this weekend’s La Jolla Coastal Classic.
What Saturday proved was that La Jolla is the second-best area in the section for girls volleyball this season outside of Del Mar Heights Road.
In an all-La Jolla championship, La Jolla Country Day beat Bishop’s 25-23, 25-12 in a tournament that featured six of the top 14 teams in the county.
“It adds an extra layer of competition because we’re always playing to be best in the city,” Torreys junior setter Alice Burgett said. “It adds another level of competitiveness to the games.”
Burgett had three kills, three stuff blocks and an ace in the championship match for Country Day (16-2). She was joined on the all-tournament team by Torreys lib
