ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

New Mexicans gathered at the University of New Mexico campus to remember conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kirk was shot and killed on Wednesday in Utah.

The memorial was Saturday evening, hosted by UNM Students for Life organization and UNM's Turning Point chapter. People gave speeches about his impact and also prayed.

"It's gotten to a point in this country where it really does feel like you can't speak your mind because of violence," said Michael Cramer, who attended the memorial. "So, I felt like it was important to be out here to pay my respects to Charlie, but also, communicate with people and really emphasize that it was an unfettered attack on free speech."
