The oddest scene in Leo Varadkar’s new memoir features him, as taoiseach, discussing the housing crisis with maverick TD Mick Wallace over a nice Chianti – with the pair of them agreeing that one in three Irish people will always struggle to buy their own home.

As a TD for Wexford, Wallace asked to see the taoiseach, so Leo invited the former developer to his office for a chat.
