SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - It’s one for the record books!

Literally!

Tanner Mackey of Pierson, Iowa, has officially beaten the Guinness World Record for the fastest 10k wearing a 20-pound vest.

Mackey beat the current world record at the Mighty Mo Run in Sioux City on Saturday, Sept. 13, with a time of 48:08.

While he is not technically the world record holder until the Guinness World Records’ Record Management Team approves it, he has still beaten the current record by over 4 minutes.

That record was 52 minutes and 17 seconds, and was held by an Egyptian runner who broke the record during a marathon in Dubai in early 2025.

Mackey says he feels grateful after overcoming many injuries.

He says his family was an immense factor in crossing that finish line.
