'There is not believed to be any further threat to the public'

Investigators closed the area around a downtown eatery after a shooting early Sunday sent one person to hospital.

The incident took place at Kabul Lounge on 5th Avenue at 8th Street S.W. around 5 a.m., the Calgary Police Service said in an advisory issued to media.

One male was taken from the scene to be treated for gunshot wounds.

“This appears to be targeted and there is not believed to be any further threat to the public at this time,” police said in its written statement.

The area around Kabul Lounge, an Afghan restaurant located at the base of a multi-storey residential building, was expected to be off-limits for some time as officers work at the scene.
